Petersfield’s Local News

Sixteen-year-old Imogen Thompson-Bland, from Petersfield – and her horse Furstin Firefly – topped the rankings in a very competitive class of the Petplan Equine Preliminary Under 21 dressage title.

Shine Radio’s dressage reporter, Loretta Leonard reports:

Imogen and Firefly qualified through two rounds of competition last summer earning their passage to this year’s championship, which was originally scheduled for April.

Firefly, a nine-year-old dark bay mare, has been with Imogen for five years and the partnership impressed the judges with a powerful performance to achieve a score of 71.59% to win the Petplan Equine Area Festival Championship.

Qualification for next year’s Petplan Equine Winter Area Festivals is already underway.

Police are warning people across our region about an odd scam where packets of seeds are unexpectedly sent to people’s homes.

The police say this is what is known as a ‘brushing scam’, where Amazon sellers set up fake accounts with real user details, to send products that haven’t actually been ordered, but then leave fake reviews to try to improve the seller’s ratings.
Please don’t plant the seeds, but contact the police who will tell you where to send the seeds – and what to do if you have planted them.

If you have received deliveries from Amazon that you didn’t order or pay for, change your account password, cancel any payment cards linked to the account and report the parcels to Amazon so they can investigate.

Hampshire County Council’s trading standards officers have issued a warning about cold callers.

They have received a high volume of reports about callers at the door offering to clean driveways, patios and paths. Residents have said the callers are very persistent and try to do demonstrations in order to persuade them to have work done.

Trading Standards strongly advise residents not to agree to work that is instigated as a result of a cold call.

Plans for 600 new homes on South Downs National Park land next to Liphook have been outlined to the village’s residents in a 48-page brochure titled ‘A Vision for Liphook’.

The Harrow Estates and Redrow Homes document has been delivered to households across Liphook. The developers want to build the £112million estate for 1,300 people on land south of Longmoor Road, next to Liphook railway station and Bohunt School, and west of the high street.

The homes would include affordable housing, live-work and self-build properties and proposed community benefits include a western link road, a medical centre, new playing fields that can be shared with Liphook United Football Club, playgrounds by Bohunt and Liphook Infant and Junior schools, a new station car park, allotments and ‘biodiversity enhancements’.

A Petersfield-based charity will fundraise on a global scale – that’s if it can get enough people to travel a distance that equals the earth’s circumference.

FizRoy is headquartered on Hylton Road in Petersfield and launches its Around the world in 80 days challenge on Tuesday.

The charity wants people to complete a total of twenty five thousand, one hundred and twenty seven miles within eighty days.

All the money raised through sponsorship will go to support FitzRoy’s work with people who have learning disabilities.

Daniella Offer works in FitzRoy’s IT department and says she’s committed to clocking-up miles on a daily basis:

IN: “I have done…”
DUR: 22”
OUT: “…how many miles I can get”
