The final work to enhance the environment around Petersfield’s Heath Pond is complete.

Specialists from Five Rivers have been working on the pond and its surrounds since January.

In the most recent and final section of work, the team completed the cladding by the Plump Duck restaurant and finished the area with compacted golden gravel.

They also filled a trench with an excavator in front of cladding by the millboard.

The team has reseeded the areas where their equipment was based and have removed fencing and pallets that have been in place throughout most of the project.

Some further planting is planned for the Spring of next year but the work over the last few days effectively completes the six hundred thousand pound project.

Petersfield Town Council has submitted a retrospective planning application for the works which will be considered by East Hampshire District Council on behalf of the South Downs National Park Authority.

People in Petersfield are starting the week living under the new rule of six.

The rule is applied nationwide and restricts any private gatherings of more than six people at a time.

It’s designed to help limit the spread of Coronavirus at a time when cases across the country have been rising fast.

Ed Virtue of Sheet already lives in a household of five.

Despite the turmoil in our retail sector one Petersfield business is celebrating thirty years of continuous trading.

Petersfield Photographic was started by Gary Boxall (vauxhall) in 1990 and has been serving customers ever since.

The store started in London House on Chapel Street and moved to its prominent corner of Lavant Street in 2000. It won Fujifilm’s Shop of the Year prize in 2014.

To mark the occasion, the store has produced a video slideshow of photographs that map the development of the business over three decades.

We’ve posted the video at petersfieldradio.uk so do have a look and see how many local faces you can recognise.

East Hampshire District Council has issued more than £26.9 million in business support grants to 2,180 firms through its Small Business and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure schemes.

The three rounds of coronavirus-related discretionary grants – which have now also closed – have seen EHDC hand out almost £1.2m to 176 businesses.

Petersfield Lions Club will be playing their part by having a stall in the market on Saturday 26 September with books and bric-a-brac.

A donation is all that is necessary for you to take your pick. The money raised on the day will go into the Lions and Brain Tumour Research fund.

You can come along, support the cause and talk to Sandra, who is leading the Brain Tumour Research partnership in our area, or find out what being one of the Lions entails.

Travel

The trains were replaced by buses all weekend but Network Rail and South Western Railway say they expect services to be back to normal this morning.

Just down from the railway station temporary traffic lights ,remain on Station Road in Petersfield for the ongoing electricity project.

The Puffin Crossing is closed for the time being while the temporary lights are controlling traffic.

Work continues on WInchester Road at its junction with Prince’s Road for the new commercial development.

And those social distancing measures remain in place across the town with cycles and  buses only between the Square and Chapel Street and lots of closed parking bays.
