Architect Alan Cosh meets the owner of the Georgian Churcher’s College building on College Street, Paul Fisher.
The building was completed in 1759 and Paul has spent a great deal of time on careful renovation.
Once home to Lord Hylton, as well as home to Richard Churcher’s school for sailors, the building was also used for tea dances during the war.
Hampshire County Council took it over in the 1980s but neglected to maintain it and it descended into a state of disrepair, says Paul.

Now, brighter times are ahead for one of the most striking buildings in Petersfield.
Excellent podcast! Always been fascinated by the building and admire Paul Fisher greatly for the vision and work done
Well done Paul and family.
Paul Fisher, Are you related to Ed Fisher ex HCC employee? Regards Brian Dean
Hi Brian. It is indeed the same. Dad was delighted to hear from you and wanted to meet up to play golf! If you follow the link on the School Master’s House Website you can send me an email and I can pass it on to Dad.
Thanks
Paul
