Police are warning people in Petersfield that Covid-19 related patrols will continue as we get used to life in Tier 2.
In a wide-ranging message, Assistant Chief Constable Maggie Blythe says the patrols will continue to ensure people are observing the restrictions.
James Birdseye has been looking at her message in detail:
The Assistant Chief Constable says the police will not prevent us from travelling from one place to another but ferry operators will carry police information about the different restrictions in place on the Isle of Wight.
And Maggie Blythe is keen to highlight an increase in domestic abuse which she says the police have witnessed during the pandemic. Anyone facing abuse or harm should call 999.
She also sends a warning about Christmas theft and online fraud. Her advice is to remember to lock your home if you’re going out and keep presents out of site.

More than one hundred people have contributed to a development consultation in Steep.
The Parish Council invited ideas for how the village might use an area of reserved open space alongside a new development on Church Road.
Now, there are so many responses, a working group has been formed to go through them.
Clare Moriarty chairs the group and says it’s important for the village that they get this right:

Shine Radio listeners have been reacting to the news that a new Aldi store is planned for Petersfield
The store is proposed for a brownfield site on Frenchmans Road. Some local residents are concerned it could lead to more rat-running in their streets.
However, the balance of opinion from Shine Radio listeners is more favourable, as Alan Cosh discovered:
Charlie Wyman welcomes more jobs and affordable shopping. He says we don’t all work in finance and shop at Waitrose.
Richard Welch says he lives right next to the site and has zero issues with the new development. As for traffic he can’t see there being any more than there is now, but he believes they need to do sort out the end of Frenchman’s Road.
Sarah Anne Harris calls for any objections to be lodged with the planning authority, and not just in a petition.
…and Cliff Woods says he’s all for it because, in his words, “there are some good beers in Aldi”.
The planning application will be considered by The South Downs National Park Authority in the weeks ahead.
How do you know which plastic items should go in the grey recycling bin?
It’s a problem for many of us, according to Hampshire County Council’s environment and transport committee.
Now, it’s chairman, councillor Russell Oppenheimer is trying to clarify matters with an infographic and some simple messages:

Free parking starts today in Petersfield.
From 3pm today, The Swan Street car park will be free for shoppers to use, and several local traders have taken advantage of the new concession by organising late night shopping tonight.
On Thursdays between now and Christmas, and also on Sundays, a number of local independent stores will open their doors to customers beyond their normal hours.
Among the stores taking part in the late night opening tonight are Madeline’s Kitchen, Velvet and Rose, Sew Creative and Hector’s Menswear.
…and the Petersfield Barbershop has decided to open until 8pm every weekday evening from now on.
The free parking is available from 3pm Monday to Saturday between today and Christmas Eve, but it’s only in the Swan Street car park.
Travel news
Delays at the top of Ramshill continue as a three-way traffic light system is in place at the junction with Barentin Way.
The bus stop outside Churcher’s College is closed because of the road works. Buses are stopping instead by Madeline Road.
And the puffin crossing by the Esso Garage is suspended while those roadworks continue. Be careful if you cross there to get to school at Churcher’s.
Look out for restrictions on Hawkley Road in Liss. That’s for council work and planned telecoms work.
West Sussex County Council is conducting roadworks in Rogate, on Rogate Road with temporary traffic lights there.
And later this week in South Harting there’s resurfacing work planned on Elsted Road.
And around the area there are minor works planned on in Petersfield, in Dragon Street, Bedford Road and Moggs Mead, Also on Drft Road in Clanfield, on the High Street in East Meon and in Tilmore on Tilmore Gardens.
