A Petersfield charity is praising Shine Radio listeners for helping it break its fundraising target.
Home Start Butser helps local families in need.
The charity set a target of twenty eight thousand pounds, half of which was income from the Big Give Trust. They matched every donation pound for pound.
But when Gift Aid receipts are included, the total raised topped thirty thousand pounds.
Project manager Nicola Winter told us they also expanded their range of donors by forty percent, thanks in part to contributions from Shine Radio listeners.

Local school children have won four prizes in a major art competition.
Four pupils from Ditcham Park School collected prizes in different categories in the Independent Schools Art Awards for twenty twenty.
Lara Hawkins picked-up the Sculpture prize for her piece called Isolation?
Thomas Robinson’s “Wild Waters Weaving” won in Textiles.
And Zach Henton and Hector Lilley both won photography awards. Their pieces were entitled “Lockdown Blues” and “Lockdown Queues”, respectively.
The children’s competition pieces contribute to their achievements at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4.
You will be able to see their work in an online gallery ahead of the national finals which take place in February.
Christmas lunch for isolated and elderly people in Petersfield is being offered on two days this year.
Normally, there’s a sit-down lunch in the Community Centre but that can’t take place during the Coronavirus pandemic.
So, in a combined effort between Age Concern and Petersfield Area Churches Together, lunches will be delivered on the twenty first of December and on Christmas Day.
Volunteers deliver the food which is donated by the catering team at Churcher’s College.
Organiser Will Hughes says that, for some people, the prospect of delivered food is a rare treat.

Local councillors are facing-up to the challenge of changing the culture of their organisation.
Members of East Hampshire District Council met last night to consider how to improve the working culture and governance of the body.
Noni Needs reports:
A meeting of the council’s Standards Committee was asked to agree a raft of corrective measures after an independent report unearthed many failures of culture and governance.
The report identified what it called “a consistent pattern of threatening and intimidatory behaviour” toward both officers and members. That means council workers and elected councillors themselves.
It also suggested that such practices had become ingrained in council culture for a decade.
Among the remedies being considered are publishing a values statement that’s meaningful to staff, running a staff survey and conducting a review of training.
East Hampshire has both a relatively new Chief Executive, Gill Kneller and Council Leader Richard Millard.
The independent report recognises they accept the need for change and says they have already started to address the issues.
Radio listeners in Petersfield will be able to join a national carols singalong next Wednesday.
Shine Radio has joined forces with other broadcasters around the country to encourage us all to take part in festive carol singing next week.
The scheme is called Doorstep Carols and it works by singing along to the music which is broadcast on the radio.
It started in Shropshire but has spread around the country in recent years and this year reaches Petersfield for the first time.
We will play the music to the carols on Shine Radio and publish the words on our website so anyone in Petersfield can take part.
The live doorstep carol singing starts at six pm next Wednesday, a week from today, on the sixteenth of December.
Travel news
Restrictions remain in place on Rams Hill with temporary traffic lights controlling traffic on the hill.
That’s still creating long delays both ends of the day but at least they’ve moved past the school now so perhaps the worst is over.
In Liss, Andlers Ash Road and Farnham Road have roadworks this week.
Up in Privett, Fillmore Hill Road will be closed for a time for patching work by Hampshire County Council – good to get that done before the first heavy frosts.
There’s work on Bedford Road by the substation so the pavement is closed there.
And look out for minor work in Bepton Down, Grange Road, Madeline Road and Tilmore Gardens.
