A re-purposed horse-box has become a weekend fixture in Steep, providing a shot of warmth in the January cold for Steep residents on Saturdays during lockdown, and a popular pit-stop for walkers.

Owner and professional caterer Alma Blackwell, who grew up in Steep, explains to Kate Fairweather how the horse-box cafe started, and why she thinks it has proved so popular, attracting walkers, cyclists and residents alike in lockdown.

The Conservatory, aka “the horse-box cafe,” is open 10-4 o’clock on Saturdays during lockdown at Steep Village Car Park.
