Our local news service is one of the most important things we do. It’s popular too, attracting around 20,000 downloads in the last year. That’s in addition to the 3,500 people a month who hear our bulletins on the live stream.
Right now there are fresh opportunities to join the Shine Radio news team.
We need to replace (the almost irreplaceable) bulletin writer Tom Reynolds whose career has taken him away from the area and we also want to share key news skills with more volunteers so we’re strong for the future.
The news team is particularly suited to you if you enjoy writing and have a natural curiosity about local life. With daily bulletins to produce, it’s based around some routine too so you’ll fit in well if you like a bit of structure in your life.
Just a few hours of your time once or twice a week could make a big difference to what we can do together.
You can contribute from home with a laptop and telephone, but there are also opportunities to get out and interview people in the news. And if you’re nervous about being on air there are vital non-speaking roles too!
Training
You will be trained in coaching and development sessions with co-founders Richard Gaisford and Stephen Martin. We also plan a Shine Radio news day when we’ll bring together all our skills and story ideas.
