A peaceful protest organised by Rural Refugee Network took place in Petersfield Square on Wednesday evening. Noni Needs captured the views of those taking part.
The protestors came to, in their words, “stand in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers’.
The campaigners were there to protest against the Nationality and Borders Bill currently being considered in the House of Commons and Lords and to campaign against the proposed shipping of immigrants to Rwanda for processing.
One protestor said she was there because “…silence will achieve nothing.”
What does the government say?
The government says the bill will protect people against slavery and human trafficking.
