Buriton eco lodge proposed site
Proposed eco lodge site near Buriton village

Officers of the Planning Inspectorate finish hearing evidence about a proposed eco lodge and car charging station near Buriton this week.

The South Downs National Park Authority has opposed the scheme, but its backers have won the right for an appeal to be heard.

Evidence was given over seven days in February from the National Park offices in Midhurst. The developers, the national park officers and experts in design, dark skies and landscape have all given evidence at the hearing. The owner of The Nest hotel, Shane Bird also spoke against the development.

The final day of the planning appeal will be held online and streamed live via YouTube. A decision is still weeks away.

The A3 junction near Buriton is attracting a lot of attention as a leisure base for the South Downs. A separate scheme for the field opposite proposes an 80 room hotel and cycle hire centre.
