Petersfield’s Shine Radio has been recognised in the UK’s most prestigious radio awards.

The volunteer-run service is one of six nominees in the Community Station of the Year category of the ARIAS.

Shine Radio is known in Petersfield for its focus on local voices, local stories and local information. Now the quality of its output is recognised by accomplished leaders in the UK radio industry.

Nominees were revealed last night in a celebrity-led ceremony organised by The Radio Academy. Singer and broadcaster Fleur East had the honour of naming Shine Radio during the event.

Shine Radio volunteer Kate Fairweather said:

The ARIAS are considered to be the Oscars of the UK radio industry so this is an exceptional accolade for our local team, especially as Shine Radio was formed so recently. We can’t wait to fly the flag for Petersfield at the awards ceremony.

Previous wins

The Shine Radio team already holds an award for Best Digital Community Radio Station from the Community Radio Awards. Two of its programmes, Dogs with Jobs and The Shine Radio Recipe, also won prizes on that occasion.

The ARIAS see it additionally go up against services which operate on broadcast radio like FM and DAB.

Competition

Our team in Petersfield faces stiff competition in the category.

Operations based in the Vale of Glamorgan, the North East of England, The Isle of Wight, High Wycombe and Shaftesbury are also recognised.

The outright winners will be announced in early May but listeners in Petersfield are already winning, knowing that their local radio station is among the very best in the UK.
