Around a dozen people dropped into Merritts Meadow early on Sunday morning.
They were there to observe National Dawn Chorus Day. PeCAN’s Melanie Oxley and Matt Warner were there, along with local bird recorder Robin Hart.
Shine Radio microphones picked-up the developing sound of the chorus from 4.30am with Shine Radio’s Stephen Martin.

Love this. So atmospheric.
Such an amazing event… SO very glad I made it. Together with my large Ikea bag from the boot of the car to sit on. Sadly, no kit like the experts in their chairs that morning. But afterwards went home to walk the dog & was totally tuned into the bird song. There was just one ‘arkhhh, arkhhh , arkhhh ‘ noise of what sounds just like the duck on Petersfield pond/lake..maybe one has come up the stream?

Almost better than being there in person. Thank you for this lovely recording and joining us in Merritts Meadow.
Delightful and well worth getting up early to join the birds and Robin with his expertise.
Joyful, uplifting and life affirming to hear the chorus. Interesting info from the expert too
Thank you
