“No mow May” has been observed all over Hampshire this year, but it’s “No mow June” in two of our cooler villages.
Privett and Froxfield parishes are the first parishes to take over responsiblity for the mowing and maintainance of their own verges. With visibility important for road safety on the lanes around the villages, it is a regulated area and had to be negotiated with County Council. The move reflects strong feelings in the village about promoting biodiversity.
Speaking from the Privett Flower Festival, Teresa Brown, the Privett Parish Councillor responsible for verges, explains how and why the villages have gone out on their own.
