This month the East Sussex town of Rye hosted the 70th National Town Criers’ Championship.

Shine Radio went along to support Petersfield’s Town Crier Faye Thompson & husband consort Martin on the day. Our roving reporter Jo Gray met some of the characters & we get a taste of the day’s events.

The 70th National Town Criers’ Championship comes to its new location of Rye on Saturday 14th October 2023.

Rye’s Town Mayor Andi Rivett & Town Crier Paul Goring hosted the event, which was held in the Gun Gardens in Rye on Saturday, 14 October.

Congratulations to Kurt De Smet of Oudenaarde, Belgium – winner of the 2023 National Town Criers’ Champion.
