A Petersfield business owner says the high cost of living is putting local stores at risk.

Boutique Velvet and Rose is the latest Petersfield shop to announce its closure.

The store is running a sale before it closes its doors in March. It’s also planning to sell its fixtures and fittings to help balance the books.

This closure comes just days after the Refill and Replenish sustainability store also decided to shut-up shop.

Velvet and Rose owner Shirley Leader says even at the busiest times people have been spending less, and other local independent traders are seeing a similar pattern.

Shine Radio’s Stephen Martin is listening to her.
