Local historian Bill Gosney was pleased but really surprised to receive a Mayor’s Award this week for his work over 15 years with Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery. Shine Radio broke the news to him.
Bill spoke to us about welfare in Petersfield 100 years ago and the Workhouse which was at the centre of the legal change in 1834.
The Workhouse for 140 destitute people was a social parachute but had enormous stigma attached.
It closed 90 years ago .
Bill spoke to Mike Waddington
