The Baton of Hope is the world’s first physical icon of mental health. The Olympic torch-like baton is used in a series of relays as part of the nationwide tour. The events are part of an initiative to raise awareness of suicide, reduce incidents, and reduce the stigma of talking about it.
On Friday (26 September) local people affected by suicide took part in a relay through the city of Portsmouth and surrounding areas. We were there to give our support.
Jo Gray met local musician, Richard ‘Ricky’ Palmer – he’s a regular guest on The Local Showcase presented by Mandy P. A key message of the Baton of Hope is talking about suicide & Richard wanted to share his own, personal experience with us.

I would agree with you that it is important that if we are finding daily life a challenge that we reach out for help and talk.
