You can now listen to Shine Radio more easily in the kitchen and the car thanks to our new DAB signal.
The introduction of local DAB radio marks the culmination of a three year long project led by the Shine Radio team, technical specialists from external organisations and other local community collaborators.
It means you can pick-up Shine Radio within our transmission area on any DAB radio that carries the official digital radio tick mark.

Our live radio coverage extends up and down the A3 from Butser to Hindhead. There’s a good signal in Petersfield and its surrounding villages, and in and around Liphook and Bramshott.
It means Shine Radio is now available on a standard radio set for the first time in East Hampshire.
Map
This map from regulator Ofcom predicts where the strongest signals are now. Ofcom believes you should be able to get a good signal inside a building within the green areas.
Outdoors, you’ll be able to receive the signal over a far wider area.
Subject to regulatory approval and funding we plan to extend coverage to Alton and Selbourne and further strengthen the signal in Liss, Greatham, Hawkley and Bordon.

How to find Shine Radio on DAB
You should be able to pick us up on any DAB radio that carries the official Digital Radio tick mark.
This means kitchen radios, bedside radios and in the car.
Scroll through the stations on your radio and look for Shine Radio. If you cannot see us try re-scanning your radio.
If you’re stuck give us a call on 01730 555 500 and we’ll do what we can to help.

What is DAB?
DAB Digital Radio is the UK’s favourite way to listen. Data from industry survey Rajar suggests more than 42% of all live radio listening is done this way.
DAB is free to receive. It has no need for an internet connection and there are no data costs involved. DAB delivers a wide choice of broadcast stations to enjoy. It works at home and in the car. A battery-powered DAB radio will keep going even in a power cut.
As a volunteer-run community radio station that provides social value to local listeners we want as many people as possible to enjoy the easiest possible access to our services.
The addition of our DAB signal means Shine Radio is now available on platforms which make-up more than 70% of UK radio listening.

Quotation
Shine Radio director Claire Vennis said:
Around 4,000 lovely listeners tune to Shine Radio through our online platforms every month but we’ve always known we could do better.
The number one request from Shine Radio listeners has been how to listen more easily in the kitchen and the car.
Now we can deliver that through our new DAB digital radio signal.
At home and on the move it’s never been easier to keep in touch with local news and information, and the voices and stories of Petersfield people.
We hope DAB means even more people get the Shine Radio habit and make local listening part of their daily routine.
Collaborations
Establishing a DAB service is complicated, expensive and requires specialist technical and regulatory expertise.
That’s why we’ve partnered with other individuals and organisations who complement our abilities and share our vision.
In our team is one of the UK’s small-scale DAB pioneers Ash Elford. Ash introduced DAB radio to Portsmouth and lives locally. Our friends at the Alton-based community service Wey Valley Radio are also part of the the project.
Readyformed Solutions and Earshot look after the technical and business operations of the DAB multiplex respectively and we are grateful to transmission engineer Alan Beech at Commtronix and the regulatory team at Ofcom.
We also want to thank the team at Churcher’s College which has backed our ambitious plans from an early stage.

Funding
This project is part-funded by the previous UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund administered as part of East Hampshire District Council’s “Grow Up” programme.

Our volunteer team is grateful to the EHDC Regeneration and Economy team for guiding us through the application and statutory reporting processes.
We also thank our sponsors and advertisers without whom we would not be able to provide our service in the local community.
They include Right At Home, Sheen Stickland, Hector’s, The Folly Market, The Spice Lounge, Churcher’s College and The Place 4 Self Storage.
