There is a concern about the water levels in The Pond, says Jacob Gibson, the Town Ranger, and it is getting close to the lowest ever.

Fishing has been suspended due to the low levels; to prevent fish being landed by being dragged along the pond bed.

Jacob says the water quality is very good; no fish deaths due to water quality (though they lost a duck to a dog on a lead, low levels expose more ‘beach’.)

The solution is rain, as tap water is not right for this environment.

Jacob, talking to Mike Waddington, explains the issues around water quality, levels, the role of the islands and why engineering is one – expensive – option.

And he assured us, the terrapins are OK.

Pond levels close to lowest ever – the islands have a role too (revealed by Jacob)
Water birds are finding more food in shallower levels
