A special illustrated 50th birthday talk in Buriton village hall.

Butser Ancient Farm is a unique experimental archaeology initiative which started in the parish of Buriton 50 years ago.

It is now also a very significant and popular educational site – welcoming school groups and visitors from all over the country and beyond.

This talk by Director Maureen Page will summarise the rise of the farm from its origins as an Iron Age research site to its current reconstructions of ancient buildings from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman Britain and the Anglo-Saxon period.

Butser’s buildings are internationally famous and appear frequently in documentaries and feature films. They also grow crops from prehistory and keep rare breeds of animals, such as goats and sheep.

Recent developments also include ‘Butser Plus’, enabling  people to watch behind the scenes at the farm as the not-for-profit organisation explores and investigates how things may have been done in the ancient past.

This array of attractions and activities will be featured in this talk along with other achievements in recent years and plans for the future.

The talk will take place in Buriton Village Hall (nr Petersfield) on Wednesday 19 October, commencing at 7.30pm.

Admission is free with a retiring collection. All are welcome.
