For the third instalment of our Alec Guinness Film Festival, we are showing ‘The Lavender Hill Mob’, which earned Guinness his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

Listed by the British Film Industry as the 17th greatest British Film of all time, sees Guinness play Holland, a meek London bank clerk charged with overseeing the delivery of gold bullion. He teams up with an eccentric neighbour (Stanley Holloway) to smuggle the gold out of the country by melting it down and reshaping it into a mini Eiffel Tower.
