Home recording tips
Choose a room with soft furnishings. A cosy carpeted snug with sofas, heavy drapes and cushions will sound better on air than a kitchen with marble counters and a stone floor.
Place the mic close to your face. If it’s too far away you’ll hear more of the room acoustic and less direct sound from your mouth.
Turn-up the headphones just loud enough to hear your own voice and that of your interviewees and co-presenters, but no louder.
Good ergonomics will improve your voice. Place the mic high enough so you’re not humped over your desk, constricting your diaphragm and breathing. Consider using an anglepoise-style microphone stand.
