Almost 100 golfers are taking part in a fundraising tournament today in memory of a Royal Marine, from Petersfield, who died 10 years ago after being caught in an explosion in Afghanistan.
Marine Richard Hollington, lived in Steep, and served in Bravo Company, 40 Commando Royal Marines. He died of wounds sustained during his active service in 2010 and became the 300th British Serviceman to die as a result of operations in Afghanistan, aged just 23.
The Hollington family’s annual golf day has become a regular fundraiser with support from Petersfield Golf Club, Barons of Hindhead and the Seven Stars pub, in Stroud, where Richard worked.
Today’s event will raise money for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
