Local Healthcare businesses are happy to be open.
As with the previous Lockdown only essential businesses can remain open to the public at this time. However, the definition of essential has now been reworked to include a number of health-care providers, including dentists and opticians, as Kate Fairweather reports.
Petersfield Lions announce their Winter Fuel Campaign
Following their successful Half Term Treasure Hunt event the Petersfield Lions have now announced their next campaign.
Petersfield Library can continue to provide a number of remote online services during Lockdown
Nicola Hepple, Team Manager at Petersfield Library has announced that a number of services will still be available for the public throughout the Lockdown. In line with government guidance, the library is close for browsing, However, the public can still access the digital library of e-books, e-audio, e-magazines and online newspapers from home or use the paid reservation service. If you prefer to read the traditional way, you can also make use of the Library’s ‘Ready Reads’ click and collect service – sign up online or over the phone on 01962 454747. The public can also still access the full range of Online Courses during the Lockdown. Nichola has also advised the the public PC will still be available for use by those who do not have online access at home and that although you can still come into the library to return books, late fines have been frozen for the duration of the Lockdown so as not to penalise those who are not able to come in.
The Petersfield Hospital Christmas campaign is underway.
Following the outstanding success earlier this year of the plea to help a terminally ill man get married, Petersfield Hospital are asking the people of Petersfield to help them bring some Christmas cheer to the wards during the festive period. This year staff want to hang a stocking on each patient’s bed on Christmas Eve in Rowan and Cedar wards. Hospital staff are asking for donations of small gifts for men and women of an older age. Hearts, soaps, smelliet, trinkets etc. and donations can be dropped in the box at the hospital entrance
The winning numbers in this week’s East Hampshire Community Lottery are out.

There are ten winners in this week’s draw including three from Petersfield and Liss.
Every ticket bought in the lottery earns money for local good causes. Among the local organisations supported by this week’s winners are the Rosemary Foundation and Petersfield Cricket Club .
Petersfield’s Shine Radio is another good cause you can choose when you buy tickets in the East Hampshire Community Radio.
Good causes receive fifty pence for every ticket you buy.
Lockdown updates
We have a rundown of which local businesses are continuing to operate and how, kicking off with a few health care facilities.
Both Swan Surgery and Grange Surgery are continuing to operate with their usual appointment systems in place.
Similarly, Lodge Dental, College Street Dental Centre and Meon Dental are all remaining open. Meon Dental will call all clients before their appointments to confirm they are free of Covid symptoms and College Street Dental will take emergency appointments if required.
And finally in our Health Care roundup – all Chemists in Petersfield are open throughout lockdown. Boots on the High Street may ask you to go round the back way to collect prescriptions. The Boots Midnight Chemist next to Swan Surgery and the Day Lewis pharmacy are also both open. (James ends)
Now we’ll move on to updating you on some local retail and hospitality businesses and how they intend to continue operating. Velvet & Rose and Gillie Gee’s Ladies Boutique are both offering a click & collect service. But sadly, Willow Fashion will be closing throughout the Lockdown.
Petersfield Photographic, One Tree Books and the Petersfield Bookshop are offering click & collect services as well as taking orders over the phone and via email.
Both the Old Drum and Cloisters will offer takeaway food and drinks throughout and The Drum will also continue to provide accommodation for anyone who needs to stay in town. But sadly, both Bakery Lane Tea Rooms and Annie Jones will be closing throughout Lockdown, as will Cafe Mezzo. Travel news
Petersfield High street is closed for sewer maintenance, this is expected to last for another few days or so . This means a number of diversions are in place around the centre of town and that the Stagecoach Bus Service to South Down College will now stop at the train station.
There are also traffic control measures in place on Sussex Road whilst South East Water carry out works. Road works also remain in place on Bell Hill whilst Hampshire County Council carry out road resurfacing.
Road closures and diversions remain in place along the Old A3, near Adhurst Farm and towards Hill Brow which are expected to cause delays at peak times so bear these in mind when traveling. Delays are also expected on Farnham Road in Liss where South East Water have installed two-way traffic controls whilst a leak is repaired..
There are also works taking place on Old Winchester HIll and on CHurch Street in East Meon which could cause delays as well. Some delays are also expected on Pockocks Lane in Hawkley due to two-way traffic signals whilst telecoms works are carried out.
